The world of PR and corporate communications continues to change rapidly. Although the effects of social media and multi-channel communication see PR becoming increasingly global, there are still many differences between PR practice in the multi-cultural Swiss landscape and other parts of the world.

This seminar is an answer to the challenge that faces experienced ex-patriot professionals working in Switzerland. The aim is help professionals become familiar with the inner workings of the PR world in Switzerland and to gain insight into Swiss best practices. The addition, the course will help participants network with other like-minded professionals as well as build connections to PR opinion leaders and media in Switzerland.

Objectives

The seminar will enable participants to:

  • gain insight into the structure of Swiss society as well as its political and media landscape
  • understand the parameters of PR practice in Switzerland including the implications and challenges of working within the various language regions
  • become familiar with the most important professional PR organisations and networks and their role within the profession
  • learn how to interact with these and other networks as a valuable resource in your daily PR work
  • be in touch with the latest trends and schools of thought most prevalent in Switzerland today
  • network with peers, Swiss opinion leaders and media representatives

Topics

The four-day seminar will cover the following topics:

  • The Swiss Federation. Switzerland's political landscape is unique in the world with its very own opportunities and challenges for communication and Public Relations. The seminar will show the most important rudiments of the Swiss political system and includes a current "who's who" in the Swiss Parliament.
  • Internal Communication and inter-cultural Issues. With its multiple cultures and historically diverse origins, Switzerland confronts expatriates with unfamiliar expectations and special charcateristics in the workplace. What characterises a typical Swiss employee? How can Swiss and Expat employees best work together? What are the rules and guidelines that facilitate integration? What are the key differences between the language regions of Switzerland?
  • Public Affairs. Rudiments of opinion leadership in Switzerland. Effective networking and lobbying on the local, Cantonal and Federal level.
  • Media Relations and New Media. The Swiss media landscape has changed dramatically in past years, in line with world trends brought about by digitalisation of media. Nevertheless the average member of the Swiss public still  consumes more print and electronic media content than any other citizen in Europe. And despite the declining quality od journalism worldwide, Swiss media produce what is considered to be among the best quality journalism in the world. Who's who in the Swiss media? How does the Swiss media work and what are the latest trends? How can media relations be effective across the language regions and beyond? How to build a media contact network in Switzerland?
  • Corporate Social Responsibility. Switzerland has long had a pioneering role in the area of CSR. Thus best practice in CSR and sustainability communication have continued to set trends for worldwide progress. An overview of the Swiss NPO sector. Challenges and opportunities for CSR in Switzerland.
